Council leaders representing Stevenage and neighbouring areas have welcomed confirmation that the government will create a new Mayoral Strategic Authority for Hertfordshire. In a joint response to the Budget, the leaders said the authority would bring powers and funding closer to Hertfordshire communities. They said this could support local priorities including council homes, transport, jobs and greater powers for communities. The leaders of Stevenage Borough Council, North Herts Council, Hertsmere Borough Council and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said they had worked with local partners, MPs and the government for two years to make the case for a Hertfordshire mayor.
